Việt Trì

geography Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Việt Trì was a very special place in northern Vietnam. It sat in the Northeast region of the country. For a long time, it was the capital of Phú Thọ Province. Many people call it the origin of the Vietnamese nation. This is because they believe it was the first capital of Vietnam. Even though it was a city, it stopped being one on July 1, 2025. This happened because of new rules for how places are organized in Vietnam.

The city was famous for its water. It sat at a place called Hạc Junction. This is where the Red River and the Lô River meet. The Black River also joins the Red River just a little bit downstream. Because three rivers come together there, people call it the City of Confluence. This location made it a great spot for moving goods. Important paths like National routes 2 and 32 helped people travel to other provinces.

Việt Trì was a busy center for work and industry. It was one of the first industrial cities in the north. Many big factories worked there to make things like paper and clothes. There were also plants for chemicals and steel. Some companies made tiles or even beer. These big businesses provided many jobs for local workers. In 2010, the city had a population of 260,288 people.

The city was also a place for learning and health. It had many different kinds of schools. Hùng Vương University was a large school with many different subjects. Students could study things like math, business, or even music. There were also many places to stay healthy. You could find the Phú Thọ Provincial Hospital and several other clinics. These places helped take care of the many people living in the area.

Because it was so important, the city grew in many ways. In 2012, it was named a class 1 provincial city. The city also worked on its roads to make traffic move smoothly. In 2015, leaders started work on a special festival to celebrate its roots. This helped the city invest in new buildings and better paths. Even though it is no longer a municipal city, its history remains very important.
