Her father worked with forests. Her mother was a farmer. These roles helped her love nature. She studied physics at a university. Later, she earned a PhD in philosophy.

Shiva works to protect the Earth. She fights for seed freedom. This means she wants farmers to own their own seeds. She fights against patents on life. A patent is a legal right to an invention. She calls this "biopiracy." She helped stop companies from claiming rights to neem and basmati rice.

In 1991, she started Navdanya. This name means "Nine Seeds." It is a movement to protect living things. It helps farmers use organic farming. This means growing food without harsh chemicals. Navdanya set up over 40 seed banks in India.

Shiva also helps women in farming. She is part of the ecofeminist movement. This group connects how we treat women to how we treat nature. She has written more than 20 books. She wants to keep our world green and fair.
