The weather in Vadodara changes through three main seasons. The summer lasts from March to July and is very hot. During the winter, from November to February, the air is extremely dry. The southwest monsoon brings rain from mid-June to mid-September. This rain makes the air feel humid and wet. Sometimes, heavy rains cause the Vishwamitri River to flood.

People have lived in this area for a very long time. Very early people lived at a place called Akota. They lived there no later than 1000 BCE and spent time hunting and fishing. Later, Akota became a town for trade with houses made of burnt bricks. The city was also a major center for Jainism. Many bronze statues and items were found at the old Akota site.

History shows that many different groups have ruled this land. In the 11th century, the city grew into a place called a "pura." Later, the city was part of the Delhi Sultanate. During this time, a group of nobles called the Amir-i Sadgan lived there. They were known because each leader had 100 cavalry soldiers. In the 1500s, the Mughal Empire took control of the region.
