He is often the brother of a parent. He can also be the man married to an aunt.

There are many different kinds of uncles. A maternal uncle is the brother of your mother. A paternal uncle is the brother of your father. A half-uncle is the half-brother of a parent. A great-uncle is the brother of a grandparent.

In some parts of the world, people use the word differently. Some cultures use "uncle" as a title of respect. For example, some Aboriginal Australian people call elders "uncle." This is a way to show respect to older people. In other places, like India, there are many specific names for uncles. These names change depending on if the uncle is from the mother's side or the father's side. The word "uncle" is also used in stories. You might know Uncle Ben from Spider-Man or Uncle Scrooge from Donald Duck.
