It grows well in many parts of the world. You can find it in North America and Europe too. This tree is very tough. It can grow in cold and dry places. It even grows in poor soil.

The tree grows very fast. This helps it make shade quickly. In the fall, its green leaves turn yellow.

In early spring, the tree grows small flowers. These flowers bloom for one week. The wind helps move pollen between the flowers. This is called wind pollination. After the flowers bloom, the tree makes seeds. The seeds are inside small, flat parts called samaras.

Small birds like to eat these seeds.

Some Siberian elms can live for a long time. In its home land, a tree might live 150 years. In other places, it may only live 60 years. The tree can also grow new parts from its roots. This is called suckering. It helps the tree spread in new areas.
