It is in Florence, Italy. The name Uffizi means "offices." This is because it was built for work. Giorgio Vasari began building it in 1560. He worked for a leader named Cosimo I de' Medici. The building was finished in 1581.

The Medici family kept many art pieces there. Later, the last Medici heiress gave the art to the city. This happened through a family pact. The museum has many great works. It has art from the Italian Renaissance. This was a famous time for art. You can see old statues and paintings there. Some works are very old.

Many people visit the Uffizi. In 2016, over two million people went there. It is the most visited art gallery in Italy. The museum has many rooms. Some rooms show art from the 13th century. A project helped make the museum even bigger. Now, there is more space for art. You can even see some art online. This lets people see it from far away.
