Learning how Turkish works reveals some very interesting rules. One special feature is called vowel harmony, where vowels in a word sound good together. Another feature is extensive agglutination, which is a way to build long words by adding parts. The basic word order is subject-object-verb. Unlike some other languages, Turkish has no grammatical gender or noun classes. It also uses honorifics to show politeness. This means speakers use different words to show respect based on age or social distance.

The history of the language goes back a very long time. The earliest known writings are the Orkhon inscriptions found in modern Mongolia. These were made to honor Prince Kul Tigin and Emperor Bilge Khagan.

In the 11th century, the Seljuqs brought the Oghuz language into Anatolia. This Oghuz language is the direct ancestor of the Turkish we hear today. An early scholar named Mahmud al-Kashgari even wrote a dictionary for it back then.

For a long time, people used a style called Ottoman Turkish. This version used many words from Arabic and Persian. It was often used by leaders and writers in the Ottoman Empire. In 1928, a leader named Mustafa Kemal Atatürk changed the alphabet. He replaced the old script with a Latin-based alphabet.

Later, in 1932, the Turkish Language Association, or TDK, was started. They worked to replace foreign words with new or old Turkic words. They even created a new word for aeroplane by using the verb for fly.

Today, Turkish is very different from the Ottoman version used long ago. Because of the changes, some older and younger people use different words. The TDK still works to make new words for modern things like computers. For example, the old word for book is now used for computer scripts.

Turkish is also very close to Azerbaijani. People who speak both can often understand each other quite easily. This makes it a very important language for many different cultures.
