He led a large group of Turkoman warriors. These people were nomads who moved to find grass for their animals. Tughril and his brother, Chaghri Beg, worked as a team. They were part of the Seljuk family. This family grew from a small group into a huge empire. Tughril helped unite many different tribes into one strong force.

Making an empire is a very hard job. First, the Seljuks served other rulers to find places to live. They worked for the Kara-Khanids and the Ghaznavids. In 1040, they fought the Battle of Dandanqan. This was a very important victory for them. After this, they became a new power in the Middle East. Tughril then moved his capital to Nishapur. Later, he moved his capital again to the city of Isfahan.

Life under Tughril brought many changes to the land. Before the Seljuks arrived, many small groups were fighting wars. This caused a lot of destruction in places like Persia. Tughril helped bring peace and prosperity to these areas. He was a very religious man. He built many mosques for prayer. He also built madrasas, which are schools for learning.

Some people say he was a just ruler. Other stories say his army could be harsh.

When Tughril died in 1063, he left a huge empire behind. He did not leave an heir to take his place. His way of ruling changed how leaders worked for a long time. He combined Turkic traditions with local ways of running a land. This created a new model of absolute rule. This model gave the sultan most of the power. The Caliph kept the spiritual leadership, but the sultan held the worldly power.
