Each worm is a hermaphrodite. This means one worm has both male and female parts. The parts mature at different times. This helps them mate with other worms. Two worms join together to make egg cases. These cases are called cocoons. They are soft and look like small boxes. The worms put eggs and sperm inside. Then the worms wiggle out of the cocoons.

Many people raise these worms on farms. They use them as food for fish. The worms have a lot of protein. This helps fish grow fast. But the worms can also make fish sick. They can carry diseases. Some fish might even eat too many. This can make the fish ill. In a fish tank, they can grow into a thick carpet. This can look messy on the bottom of the tank.
