Trotula of Salerno

She lived in the 12th century. She studied at a school in Salerno. This was the first medical school in Europe to let women study.

Trota wrote many books about medicine. One book is called the Practica secundum Trotam. This book covers many things. It talks about fevers and wounds. It even gives advice on snakebites. She also wrote about how to stay healthy. She told people to exercise and eat well. She even gave tips on how to clean teeth and care for hair.

Trota had some very bold ideas. She said that both men and women are responsible for making babies. This was a new idea back then. It caused many people to argue about her work.

For a long time, people forgot who she really was. They thought a person named "Trotula" wrote a famous set of books. But Trotula was not a real name. It was just a mistake. Scholars found her real work again in the late 1900s. Now we know how important she was to medicine.
