Tropicbirds are white seabirds that live in warm waters.

They have long feathers on their tails. Their bodies are 76 to 102 cm long. Their wings are also quite big. They have large, strong bills. Their necks are short and thick.

These birds have webbed feet. All four toes are joined by skin. Their legs are far back on their bodies. This means they cannot walk. They must push with their feet to move on land. They catch fish by diving into the water. They often eat flying fish or squid.

Tropicbirds make special shows to find a mate. They fly in large circles. They swing their tail feathers side to side. The female lays one spotted egg in a hole. Both parents help care for the baby. The chick stays in the nest for 12 to 13 weeks. Before they fly, the young birds float on the ocean. This helps them lose weight so they can fly well.
