Trogons are beautiful birds found in warm, tropical forests.

They live in many places like Africa, Asia, and the Americas. The name trogon comes from a Greek word for "nibbling." This is because they gnaw holes in trees to make nests.

They often lay two to four white eggs in these holes.

These birds have a very special way of using their feet. They have a unique toe pattern called heterodactyl.

This means their toes are set up differently than most other birds. Trogons also have very weak legs. They cannot walk or even turn around on a branch. They must use their wings to move.

Trogons eat fruit and insects. They use a special way of hunting called sally-glean. They sit on a branch and watch. Then, they fly out to snatch a snack from a leaf.

They grab the food and fly back to their perch. Some species, like the quetzal, have very long tails.
