This work is called transportation planning. Planners look at many needs. They think about how to move people and goods.

In the past, many planners focused on cars. They wanted to build more roads to help the economy grow. Today, things are changing. Planners now think about the whole world around them. They want to protect the air and the land. This is called sustainability, or keeping things healthy for a long time.
