Touring car racing is a thrilling type of motorsport. These races feature cars that look like the ones we see on the road.

People love this sport because the racing is very close. Unlike some other races, these cars do not use much air power to stay on the track. This makes it much easier for one car to pass another. It is even common to see cars nudge or bump each other while racing.

Some races are short sprints, but others are long endurance tests. These can last from 3 hours to a full 24 hours. These long races test the speed of the driver and the skill of the pit crew.

To make a racing car, teams start with a standard car body.

From there, they can change almost every other part. They might upgrade the engine, the brakes, the wheels, or the tires. Some teams even add special parts to the front or back to help with airflow. To keep the racing fair, many series use special rules. They might use a "Balance of Performance" to make sure no one car is too fast. They might also use extra weight, called ballast, to make a winning car heavier for the next race. This helps keep the competition very tight among different teams.

This type of racing has a long history. It began in Europe during the middle of the twentieth century.

Back then, the races were very different. They were long competitions that took place on public roads between different towns. Because the cars were not very reliable, each car had a driver and a mechanic. The mechanic carried tools and spare parts to fix things during the race. You can still see this history in how modern cars are built. In many cars, the driver sits slightly to one side rather than in the center.

Many famous championships exist all over the world today.

The TCR World Tour is a major international series. It uses 1.6-litre turbo engines to compete. In the United Kingdom, the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) is very popular. It features cars like hatchbacks and station wagons. In Germany, the DTM series uses very advanced machines. These cars can reach speeds of 300 km/h. In Australia and New Zealand, the Supercars Championship is known for being the fastest. These cars use huge 5.0-litre V8 engines and can cost over $1 million.

Touring car racing is always changing with new technology.

While many fans love the sound of big engines, the sport is looking toward the future. Some series are now using hybrid technology to be more sustainable. There are even electric touring car series, like the FIA E-Touring Car World Cup. This shows how racing can adapt to new ways of moving. Whether it is a loud V8 engine or a quiet electric motor, the goal is the same. It is all about the skill of the driver and the excitement of the race.
