Tortricid moths are a large family of insects. People call them leafroller moths. There are over 11,000 types of these moths. Most of them are small. Their wings span 3 cm or less. Many have brown colors that look like bark. Some moths are bright. They look like other moths to stay safe.

These moths have different ways of growing. Some baby moths live inside stems or seeds. Other baby moths live on the outside of leaves. These ones make leaf rolls. They use the leaves as a home.

Some of these moths are pests. This means they can hurt crops. The codling moth is a famous one. It eats apples. It makes holes in the fruit. This moth came from Europe. Now it lives in many lands. It is found in America and Australia. People use sprays to stop them. They must time the sprays well. They want to catch the babies before they eat the fruit.
