He lived during a time called the Baroque era. He was also a priest in a group called the Mercedarians.

Tirso wrote many kinds of stories. He wrote plays, poems, and short tales. He was very busy and wrote many works. Some say he wrote as many as four hundred plays! Today, we still have about eighty of them. One of his most famous plays is called The Trickster of Seville. This play is special because it first showed the character Don Juan on stage.

His writing was not always easy for everyone. Some people in his time did not like his plays. They thought his work was too bold. Because of this, he moved to a new city. He spent much of his life serving his religious order. He worked as an archivist, which is a person who keeps important records. He died in the city of Soria. Even after many years, people still study his smart and clever stories.
