Vasily Trediakovsky was a famous Russian writer. He wrote poems, plays, and essays. He helped change how people wrote in Russia. This helped build the start of Russian literature.

Vasily was the son of a poor priest. He went to study in Paris. He was the first common man to study abroad. There, he learned math and how words work. He also studied philosophy.

When he came home, he worked for the Academy of Sciences. In 1735, he wrote a book about poems. This book talked about new styles. These styles included the sonnet and the ode. He also wrote about the rondeau and the madrigal.

Vasily studied how the Russian language sounds. He wrote a book about this in 1748. He also translated many books from other lands. He translated works by French writers and old thinkers. Some leaders did not like his work. They even took away his job in 1759.

His work changed how poems were made. He helped move from old ways to new ways. His new ways fit the sound of the Russian tongue better.
