He is most well known for inventing the World Wide Web. He also created HTML, which is a language used to write web pages. He also made the URL system to find web addresses. He also created HTTP, which helps computers talk to each other. His work changed how people connect all over the world. Many people believe his invention is one of the most important things of the 20th century.

His invention works by using several different parts together. First, he used a concept called hypertext to link information. He combined this idea with the existing Internet to make the web. He built the first web server to hold data.

He also built the first web browser to view that data. This browser was also an editor for making pages. He even made the first website to explain how the system worked. This allowed people to learn how to set up their own servers.

Tim grew up in a family of scientists. His parents, Mary and Conway, both worked on computers.

As a child, he liked playing with model railways. This helped him learn about electronics. He went to Oxford University to study physics. While he was a student, he even built a computer from an old television set. He later worked at a company called Plessey. He also worked at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.

In 1989, Tim wrote a proposal for an information system.

His manager called the idea "vague, but exciting." He worked with a partner named Robert Cailliau to build the web. On December 20, 1990, he published the very first website. In 1994, he started the World Wide Web Consortium, or W3C. This group helps make rules for the web. He chose to give his invention away for free. No one had to pay royalties to use his technology.

Today, Tim continues to work on making the web better. He wants the web to be open and fair for everyone.
