People speak Tigrinya in many parts of the world. Large groups live in the United States and Canada. They also live in the United Kingdom and Italy. In Australia, people can hear it on the radio.

Tigrinya uses a special writing system. It uses the Ge'ez script, which is an abugida. An abugida is a way of writing where each symbol shows a consonant and a vowel together.

The language has many unique sounds. Some sounds are very rare. Doubling a consonant sound is also important. This is called gemination. In Tigrinya, doubling a sound can change the meaning of a word.

Tigrinya is also linked to an old language called Ge'ez. Many words in Tigrinya come from Ge'ez. This helps people write about their faith and history. It is a way to keep their culture alive.
