Tiberius served in the army for many years. He fought in wars in Africa and Spain. One time, he had to negotiate a treaty in Spain. This was a hard job for him.

Tiberius wanted to help poor Roman citizens. He saw that rich people owned too much land.

He made a plan to share this land. He wanted to give some land to the poor. This would help them farm and live better lives. Many poor people liked his ideas. However, many rich leaders did not like them. They did not want to lose their land.

Tiberius broke some old rules to pass his laws. This made the leaders in Rome very angry. They feared he wanted too much power. A large group of men attacked Tiberius and his friends. It was a very violent fight. Tiberius died during the riot.

His brother, Gaius, later tried to help with similar plans. The land laws stayed in place even after Tiberius died.
