Later, Marcellus fought in the Second Punic War. He helped protect the city of Nola from Hannibal. He also led a long siege at Syracuse. Syracuse was a city on the island of Sicily. The city had clever machines made by a man named Archimedes. These machines made the fight very hard. Eventually, the Romans took the city in 212 BC. During the fight, the inventor Archimedes was killed. Marcellus felt bad about this. The Romans took much art from the city back to Rome. Marcellus died in battle in 208 BC.
