Taoism is a way of thinking. It has three special rules. People call these the Three Treasures. They are very precious to followers.

The first treasure is compassion. This means having deep love or pity. It is like the love a mother has. Some say this is the most important part. It helps a person be truly brave.

The second treasure is frugality. This means living a simple life. It means not wasting anything. It is like uncarved wood. This helps a person keep their desires small.

The third treasure is humility. This means not trying to be first in the world. Some people say this keeps you safe. If you stay behind, you can grow well. It helps you avoid danger.

Many people translate these words in different ways. Some call them mercy, thrift, and modesty. These three things help people live a good life. They are part of the teachings in the Tao Te Ching. This is an old book of wisdom.
