His name comes from an old word meaning 'Thunder'.

Thor has a very specific way of traveling and fighting. He rides in a chariot pulled by two goats. These goats are named Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr.

A strange part of his story involves these goats. Thor can eat them and then bring them back to life. To fight, he uses a mighty hammer called Mjölnir. He also wears iron gloves and carries a special staff.

These tools help him face many dangerous enemies.

Stories about Thor have existed for a very long time. He is the son of Odin and Jörð. Thor has many brothers and a golden-haired wife. He fathered several children, including the goddess Sif.

One of his most famous battles is with a serpent. This monster is named Jörmungandr, the Midgard serpent.

The stories say they are destined to die fighting each other.

History shows that Thor was popular in many different places. During the Roman era, people linked him to the god Hercules.

This happened because both had powerful tools for fighting. In the Viking Age, his popularity was very high. People even wore small hammer pendants to show their faith.

Some people in Sweden even kept statues of him in temples. In the 11th century, Adam of Bremen wrote about these temples.

We can still see traces of Thor in our world today. The name for Thursday comes from his name in Old English.
