Kolokotronis grew up in a family of fighters. His father was a captain named Konstantinos. Konstantinos fought in a rebellion called the Orlov revolt. Sadly, his father and two brothers died in 1780. At age 15, Theodoros learned to fight from Mitros Petrovas. He called Mitros "uncle" and worked with him for life. Later, he served in the British army. This job taught him how to be a major.

In 1821, the Greek War of Independence began. Theodoros was 50 years old at this time. People called him "The Elder of Morea." He organized bands of fighters in the Peloponnese. He helped capture the town of Tripolitsa in late 1821.

One of his biggest wins was at the Battle of Dervenakia. In 1822, his troops trapped the Ottoman army in a pass. This victory was led against Mahmud Dramali Pasha.

Life was not always easy for the general. From 1823 to 1825, there were civil wars in Greece. His side lost, and he was sent to prison in Hydra. He was released in 1825 to fight an Egyptian army. This army was led by Ibrahim Pasha.

Theodoros used clever ways to fight them. He was made the commander-in-chief of the Peloponnese. He worked hard to defend his land from destruction.

After the war, politics in Greece changed a lot. He supported a leader named Ioannis Kapodistrias. After the leader died in 1831, Theodoros supported Prince Otto. Later, he had problems with the new government. He was even charged with treason in 1834. However, he was pardoned in 1835. He died in Athens in 1843.
