"The Tyger" is a very famous poem by William Blake.

He published it in 1794. It was part of his book called "Songs of Experience." This book was meant to show two different sides of the human soul. One side is soft and innocent. The other side is full of experience. Blake wanted people to see how these two sides work together. He believed that truth comes from understanding these big differences.

The poem works by asking many deep questions. The speaker asks, "Who made thee?" He wants to know who could create such a fierce animal. The poem uses words about fire and bright eyes to paint a picture. It also asks what tools were used to build the tiger. The speaker wonders if the creator was afraid of the tiger's power. In the end, the poem asks if the creator would "dare" to make it.

William Blake was both a poet and a printer. He published "Songs of Experience" as a follow-up to his 1789 book, "Songs of Innocence." He even made 54 beautiful illustrated plates for his books. Only 28 copies of his original collection are known to exist today. Some of these were published while he was alive. Other copies were published after he died. Blake printed his own work many times during his life.

There are many interesting facts about this poem. It has six stanzas, which are groups of lines. Each stanza has four lines in it. The poem uses a rhythm called trochaic tetrameter. Blake may have been inspired by a real event from 1792. A tiger killed the son of a man named Sir Hector Munro. This event happened in December of that year.

This poem is still very important to many people today. It is often called the "sister poem" to "The Lamb." While the lamb is gentle, the tiger is fierce. Many different kinds of musicians have used the poem for inspiration. Benjamin Britten wrote songs based on Blake's work. Even rock bands like Duran Duran have used its ideas. Some artists use a piano, while others use a whole orchestra. It is a poem that keeps making people wonder.
