It is called The Second Sex. She wrote it in 1949. The book has two parts. One part is called Facts and Myths. The other part is called Lived Experience. Beauvoir was a French philosopher. This means she spent her life thinking about big ideas.

In her book, she asks a big question. She asks, "What is woman?" She noticed that many people see men as the main part of the world. She says women are often seen as the "Other." This means women are defined by how they relate to men.

Beauvoir looked at many parts of life. She studied history and how women were treated in places like Greece and Rome. She also looked at how work and family changed things for women. She wrote about how girls grow up differently than boys. She thought women should have the freedom to choose their own paths. She believed women must work for their own liberation. This means they must work to be free. Her ideas helped start a new way of thinking about women's rights.
