The Killers are a major American rock band.

They are recognized as one of the most successful rock groups of the 21st century. Their musical style is often described as a blend of British pop and indie rock. This sound helped them reach massive audiences around the globe. To date, they have sold more than 28 million records worldwide. This includes 10.8 million sales within the United States alone.

The band's core sound relies on the specific roles of its members. Brandon Flowers provides the lead vocals and also plays keyboards or bass. Dave Keuning serves as the lead guitarist and provides backing vocals. Mark Stoermer contributes bass, rhythm guitar, and backing vocals. Ronnie Vannucci Jr. handles the drums and percussion. These four musicians worked together to become a cohesive unit. Even during periods when members took breaks, the band continued to record and perform.

Creating their music involved various stages of practice and recording. In their early years, the members wrote song ideas in a garage. They also practiced at night in a band room at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. After developing their sound, they recorded demos in Henderson, Nevada. These early sessions included the song "Mr. Brightside," which was the first piece Flowers and Keuning wrote together. They eventually moved to professional studios in places like Berkeley, California, to record more polished versions of their songs.

The history of the band began in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2001. Brandon Flowers and Dave Keuning met after Flowers responded to a newspaper advertisement. They named the group The Killers after a fictional band in a New Order music video. The lineup became stable in 2002 when Ronnie Vannucci Jr. and Mark Stoermer joined. The band initially struggled to find a record deal in the United States. However, an independent label in the United Kingdom called Lizard King Records offered them a deal in July 2003.

Success arrived quickly following their signing with Lizard King Records. Their debut album, *Hot Fuss*, was released in 2004. The album featured hit singles like "Somebody Told Me" and "All These Things That I've Done." *Hot Fuss* was a massive commercial success and reached number one on the UK Albums Chart in 2005. It spent a total of 173 weeks on that chart, which was more than any other album in that decade. The band has since released seven studio albums. Remarkably, every single one of these albums topped the UK Albums Chart. These albums include *Sam's Town* (2006), *Day & Age* (2008), *Battle Born* (2012), *Wonderful Wonderful* (2017), *Imploding the Mirage* (2020), and *Pressure Machine* (2021).

Visual branding is also a key part of the band's identity. The band uses a marquee sign motif for its logo.

Brandon Flowers was inspired by the artwork on an Elvis Presley compilation album titled *ELV1S: 30 No. 1 Hits*. This logo appears on all their merchandise and promotional materials. During live performances, the band uses elaborate stage designs to enhance the experience.

As members have taken hiatuses from touring, other musicians have stepped in to help. For example, Ted Sablay and Jake Blanton have performed live roles to maintain the band's full sound.

The scale of The Killers' influence is visible in the venues they play. They have performed in over 50 countries across six continents. They have headlined massive locations such as Wembley Stadium and Madison Square Garden. They have also played major music festivals like Glastonbury and Electric Picnic.

Their music has even influenced other famous artists. For instance, after the song "All These Things That I've Done" was performed at the Live 8 concert, musicians like Robbie Williams, Coldplay, and U2 incorporated its lyrics into their own performances.
