It was made by Judy Chicago. She worked with many helpers from 1974 to 1979. The art is a large, triangular table. This shape stands for equality. There are 39 place settings on the table. Each setting honors a famous woman from history.

Each setting has a hand-painted plate. Many plates have shapes like flowers or butterflies. These shapes represent a vulva, which is a part of a woman's body. The settings also have ceramic cups and embroidered napkins. The table has three sides. Each side honors a different time in history. One side honors women from ancient times. Another side honors women from the rise of Christianity. The last side honors women from the American Revolution to modern times.

The table sits on the Heritage Floor. This floor is made of over 2,000 white tiles. Each tile has a name written in gold. The names belong to 998 women and one man. The man was included by mistake. The art is now at the Brooklyn Museum.
