My Bed

arts Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Tracey Emin is an artist from England. She made a sculpture called "My Bed."

It is her own bed. The bed looks very messy. It shows how her room looked during a sad time. She felt very low due to a hard breakup. She stayed in bed for four days. During that time, she did not eat food. She only drank alcohol. The bed has many things on and around it. There are stained sheets. There are also slippers and other items on the floor.

Many people talked about this work. Some critics thought it was a joke. Emin said that no one had ever shown an unmade bed like this before. Two men once jumped on the bed during a show. They had a pillow fight for fifteen minutes. This work is seen as a very honest self-portrait. It shows how people feel when they are hurt. In 2014, the bed was sold at an auction. It sold for over 2.5 million pounds.

This is a very big amount of money for a bed.
