Tracey Emin is an artist from England. She created a famous sculpture called "My Bed."

This artwork is not made of clay or stone. Instead, it is the artist's own bed. It looks very messy and unmade. The bed shows a very personal part of her life. Many people find it to be a moving piece of art. It acts like a self-portrait of her feelings.

The sculpture shows exactly how the bed looked during a hard time. Emin stayed in her bed for four days. During those days, she did not eat any food. She only drank alcohol. The bedsheets have stains on them. There are also items on the floor near the bed. You can see slippers and other everyday things. These objects show the mess of a very sad period. It shows the reality of being very unhappy.

Emin first made this work in 1998. In 1999, it was shown at the Tate Gallery. It was even a finalist for the Turner Prize. She faced many critics who did not like it. Some people said anyone could show an unmade bed. Emin told them that no one had done it before. She defended her work with great strength. She wanted people to see her true self.

This artwork has caused many big reactions over the years. In Japan, the bed was shown in different ways. One time, a hangman's noose hung over it. Two artists named Yuan Cai and Jian Jun Xi once jumped on the bed. They had a pillow fight for about fifteen minutes. Security guards had to remove them from the show. The bed has also been owned by Charles Saatchi. He even put it in a special room in his home.

"My Bed" is a very important part of modern art. It shows how people deal with heartbreak and sadness. Some writers say it shows how a person can be strong. It helps people understand what it feels like to be vulnerable. The bed is also very valuable. In July 2014, it was sold at an auction by Christie's. It sold for more than £2,546,500. This is a huge amount of money for a bed.
