Telemetry is a way to collect data from far away.

The word comes from Greek roots. It means to measure from a distance. A telemeter is the tool that does the work. It has three main parts. First, it has a sensor to measure things. Second, it has a path to send the data. Third, it has a device to show or record the news.

These tools can use wires or wireless signals. Many systems use radio waves to send data. Some use light or even phone networks.

We use telemetry in many ways. Scientists use weather balloons to study the air. In space, spacecraft use radio waves to talk to Earth. This helps us check on the health of astronauts. We can even use it to track animals like crocodiles.

Even race car teams use it. They use data to make cars go faster. Telemetry helps us learn about our world in real time.
