This location creates a diverse topography. In the north, the land consists of high, rugged mountains. As you move toward the south, the terrain descends into gradually sloping plains. This variation results in a range of climates. The northern areas experience cool alpine conditions. Meanwhile, the southern lowlands are characterized by a semi-arid climate.

Weather patterns in Tehran province change significantly through the four seasons. The province generally experiences a cold semi-arid, steppe climate in the south. In contrast, the north features an alpine climate. Winter brings cold and snowy conditions to the region. Temperatures can drop as low as −20 °C during certain winter periods. Summer is typically warm to hot and generally dry. The hottest months occur from mid-July to mid-September. During this time, temperatures usually range between 28 °C and 30 °C.

Human history in this region spans several millennia. Archaeological sites indicate that settlements have existed here for thousands of years. The oldest known sites are located in Firuzkuh County and date back to the fourth millennium BCE. For a long period, the city of Rey was the most prominent urban center. However, the city of Tehran rose to prominence later. By 1796, Tehran became the capital of Iran. Since that time, it has functioned as the country's political and economic nucleus.
