Taxus brevifolia

life science Maturity 5-7 Next article →

The Pacific yew is a small tree. It stays green all year long. It grows in the wet parts of the west.

This tree grows very slowly. Sometimes the inside of the trunk rots. This can make the tree hollow.

It has dark green leaves. The leaves grow in flat rows. The tree also has bright red fruit.

Birds like to eat the red fruit. The seeds inside are very hard. When birds eat them, they spread the seeds. This helps new trees grow.

Be careful with this plant. The seeds and leaves are poisonous. You should not eat them.
