The story is about a struggle between two kinds of love. It also shows how love can bring peace.

Wagner made many changes to the show. He made a special version for Paris in 1861. This version included a ballet, which is a type of dance. He put the dance in the first act. He wanted it to show the world of Venus.

The Paris shows were hard for Wagner. Some people in the crowd were not kind. They made loud noises during the show. Wagner even withdrew the opera after three shows. He used many instruments like horns and harps. The music is still performed in big opera houses today.
