Taejo was the sixth king of Goguryeo. Goguryeo was a kingdom in northern Korea. He was a very important leader for this young state.

Under his rule, the kingdom grew much larger. He helped it become a strong, organized place. He changed how the land was managed. This helped the king keep control over everything. He made the kingdom much more central.

To do this, Taejo changed how the people were organized. He turned five powerful clans into five provinces. Each province had a governor to help rule. These governors answered directly to the king. This gave Taejo control over the military and the economy.

He also traveled through his lands often. This helped him stay in charge of his growing territory. He made sure his rules were followed everywhere.

Taejo became king in the year AD 53. He was only seven years old at the time. His father was Go Jaesa, a leader from a powerful family. Because Taejo was so young, his mother helped him rule.

He stayed on the throne for many, many years. Some records say he ruled for 93 years. Other books say he ruled for 68 years. This makes him one of the longest-ruling kings in history.

Taejo was a leader who expanded his borders. In the year 56, he took over Eastern Okjeo. He also conquered Galsa in 68 and Jona in 72. Later, he conquered Juna in 74.

He fought with the Han dynasty in China many times. In 122, he made an alliance with the Mahan confederacy. He also worked with the Yemaek tribe. These moves helped the realm of Goguryeo grow even more.

Historians still have many questions about Taejo's life. They study his family name, which was Go. Earlier rulers used a different name, Hae.

Some scholars think this means different families ruled at different times. They also wonder about his long life. Some say he lived to be 118 years old. Other books say he died at age 74 in the year 121. These details help us understand the mysteries of the past.
