Taejo was the sixth king of Goguryeo. Goguryeo was a kingdom in northern Korea. He became king when he was seven years old. His mother helped him rule at first.

Taejo was a very strong leader. He wanted to make his kingdom more organized. He turned five clans into five provinces. Each province had a governor. This gave the king more control. He also grew his land. He took over states like Galsa and Jona. He even fought with the Han dynasty in China. He worked with other tribes to win more land.

Taejo ruled for a very long time. Some stories say he ruled for 93 years. If that is true, he was one of the longest-ruling kings ever. Other books say he ruled for 68 years. He died when he was 74 or 118 years old. After he died, his brother took the throne. Some stories say his sons died soon after. Historians still study his life today. They wonder if his family was truly related to the first king.
