Some stories say he was the son of a river god. He was a very skilled archer. Jumong led a small group of followers to build a new home. He married a woman named Soseono. She helped him start the new state.

The land of Goguryeo had many big mountains. This made it hard to grow food. Because of this, the people grew their kingdom to find more land. They were strong warriors.

They even had special armored riders.

Goguryeo was a major power for a long time. But the kingdom grew tired after many fights. In 668 AD, an alliance of two other groups defeated them. After the fall, their land was split up. The name Goguryeo later became the root for the word "Korea."
