This is because he worked hard to improve science, medicine, and art. He is most famous for creating Hangul. Hangul is the native alphabet used to write the Korean language. This new way of writing helped people communicate much better.

Sejong's path to the throne was not expected at first. He was born as Yi To in 1397. He was the third son of King Taejong.

As a boy, he loved to read many books. His older brother was the crown prince, but he had many behavioral issues. In 1418, the king decided to change the successor. He chose Yi To because he was studious and wise. Sejong was crowned king at the Geunjeongjeon hall in the Gyeongbokgung palace.

During his reign, Sejong built many important things for his country. In 1420, he reestablished a group called the Hall of Worthies.
