He first went to a special school called the Corps of Cadets in Warsaw. Later, he traveled to France to learn even more. In Paris, he studied architecture and learned how to draw well. He also spent time in libraries to learn about military ideas. These lessons helped him design amazing defenses for soldiers. He used math and science to make sure his forts were strong.

His story began in February 1746 in a manor house.

This house was on the Mereczowszczyzna estate in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. At that time, this land was part of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. His family was part of the nobility, known as the szlachta. They had a family symbol called the Roch III coat of arms.

He also helped the army escape by blocking roads with fallen trees and dams. These clever ideas helped the Americans win important battles.

After his time in America, he returned to his home in Europe. He led a large fight in 1794 called the Kościuszko Uprising. He wanted to protect Poland from being taken by other strong lands. Kościuszko believed that all people should be free and treated fairly. In 1798, he wrote a special will to help free slaves in the United States. He eventually lived in Switzerland until he died in 1817.
