Thomas Hill Green was a famous thinker from England. He was born in 1836. He lived and taught at Oxford University. Green was part of a group called British idealists. These thinkers had many big ideas about the world.

Green wrote many important books. Most were published after he died. He taught about ethics, which is the study of right and wrong. He also taught about politics and religion. He believed that our minds are very special. He thought humans are unique because we are self-conscious. This means we know that we are thinking.

Green also worked to make life better for people. He wanted more men to have the right to vote. He and his wife helped start a college for women. This school was called Somerville College. He also helped start a school for boys.

He believed that people need a community to grow. We cannot become our best selves alone. We must work with others in a group. This helps us reach a moral ideal. Green died in 1882. About 2,000 people went to his funeral.
