In Germany, a group of thinkers had big ideas.

This group is called German idealism. It started in the late 1700s. These thinkers studied how we know things. They looked at the link between the mind and the world.

Immanuel Kant was a very important leader. He had a special idea. He said our minds help shape what we see. Our minds use rules to organize information. Because of this, we cannot know the world exactly as it is. We only know how it appears to us.

Other thinkers came after him. Some were called transcendental idealists. This group included Kant and Fichte. Others were called absolute idealists. This group included Schelling and Hegel.

Johann Gottlieb Fichte had a bold view. He said there is no outside thing we cannot know. Instead, the mind is the source of everything. Friedrich Schelling thought the mind and the world were the same. He said you cannot have one without the other. Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel looked at how ideas change through history. These thinkers all wondered how our minds and reality fit together.
