It is one of the best-selling games in history.

The game uses a side-scrolling view where you move to the right. You must jump over pits and avoid many different enemies. Mario can find special items called power-ups to help him. Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka designed this game at Nintendo. They wanted to make a more colorful game than older ones. They used ideas from their work on games like Excitebike and Kung Fu. Miyamoto wanted a game with a scrolling screen and large characters. The team even made the first level, World 1-1, to teach players how to play. They wanted the game to feel like a big adventure.

This game first came out in Japan in September 1985. It was released for the Famicom, which is the Japanese version of the NES. Later, it came to the United States and other parts of the world. In early 1986, it was also put into arcades. The game has eight worlds with four stages in each world. The final stage of each world is a fiery castle. You must defeat Bowser in the eighth world to win.

Super Mario Bros. helped make video games popular again after a hard time in 1983. It helped start a whole new way to play games. The music by Koji Kondo is also very famous. Today, Mario is part of a huge franchise. There are many Mario games, movies, and even a TV show. People all over the world still love this classic game.
