Harry Alonzo Longabaugh was a famous outlaw from the American Old West. Most people know him by his nickname, the Sundance Kid. He was a member of a group called the Wild Bunch. This gang included a leader named Butch Cassidy. Together, they performed the longest string of successful train and bank robberies in American history.

They were very good at hiding and escaping from the law.

Longabaugh grew up learning about ranch life. He was born in Pennsylvania in 1867. At age 15, he traveled west in a covered wagon to Colorado. He worked as a wrangler and learned how to breed horses. Later, he worked at the Bar U Ranch in Canada. He also owned part of a hotel saloon in Calgary.

During this time, he began to live a much harder life.

His life changed when he became an outlaw. In 1887, he stole a gun and a horse in Wyoming. A judge sentenced him to 18 months in jail. It was during this time that he took the name Sundance Kid. He got this name from a town in Wyoming. He was known to be a very fast gunfighter.

The Pinkerton Detective Agency worked very hard to catch him.

To escape the law, the gang left the United States. They traveled to South America in 1901 on a ship called the Herminius. They went to Argentina and then to Bolivia. They lived in a small four-room log cabin. They tried to live like ranchers with cattle and sheep.

However, they still robbed banks in places like Río Gallegos and Villa Mercedes.

In November 1908, a final shootout happened in Bolivia. It took place near a mining town called San Vicente. Local soldiers and police surrounded a house where the men were staying. A gunfight broke out that lasted for many hours. Most historians believe both Cassidy and Longabaugh died that night.

Today, many people still remember their stories through famous movies and books.
