The Suhrawardi is a group of people who follow a Sufi way of faith. Abu al-Najib Suhrawardi started this group. His ideas came from a scholar named Junayd of Baghdad. The group did not have one single leader. Because of this, the group split into many branches.

They had special buildings called khanqahs. These were places where they could live and meet. These lodges helped them spread their ideas. Many famous people were in the group. One was the poet Saadi Shirazi. Another was a man named Abd al-Razzaq Kashani.

This group was very big in India. They lived in places like Delhi and Bengal. They also had a large presence in Kashmir. A king named Rinchana joined the faith. The group also worked with many Indian rulers. This included the Mughal Empire.

Members of the group focus on certain things. They practice dhikr, which is a type of prayer. They also fast during the month of Ramadan. Most groups in the Middle East have ended. But the Suhrawardi is still active in Iraq today. They still find new members there.
