He studied how stars live and change. He was born in India in 1910. Later, he moved to the United States. He spent many years teaching at the University of Chicago.

Chandrasekhar found a very important rule for stars. This is called the Chandrasekhar limit. It tells us the most mass a white dwarf star can have. A white dwarf is a small, dense star. If a star is heavier than this limit, it will collapse. This collapse can make a neutron star or a black hole.

He also studied how stars move in our galaxy. He used math to show how stars pull on each other. This helped us understand the Milky Way. He even studied how gas and dust move in space.

In 1983, he won the Nobel Prize in Physics. This is a very big award for science. Many things are named after him today. For example, NASA has a space tool called the Chandra X-Ray Observatory. He worked hard to understand the secrets of the sky.
