This linguistic ability was a valuable tool for his international career ambitions.

His professional journey began with religious performances in the 1990s. He transitioned to formal theater in 2002 when he joined the Kaole Arts Group. He gained television fame through soap operas such as Jahazi and Dira. His official film debut occurred in the movie Haviliki. In April 2012, Kanumba died at the age of 28. He suffered a fatal head injury after falling in his bedroom and hitting a wall. She claimed he had confronted her and used a sword during an altercation. She testified that he fell and hit his head during this incident.

The legal proceedings concluded with a conviction for involuntary manslaughter. This term refers to causing a death through an unintentional act. Elizabeth Michael was sentenced to two years in prison in November 2017. Her sentence was later changed to community service. She was released from jail on May 12, 2018, after serving at least one year. Kanumba's impact on his country was visible during his final farewell. An estimated 30,000 people attended his funeral.

Kanumba's death drew many high-ranking Tanzanian officials to his service. The funeral included the First Lady, Salma Kikwete. Vice President Dr. Mohamed Gharib Bilal also attended the event.
