Acting involves more than just memorizing lines. It requires a deep commitment to the character being played. Saritha has demonstrated this through intense physical changes. In 1980, she had her head tonsured, or shaved, for a role in the film Sujatha. This character was affected by cancer. Later, in the 2005 film Julie Ganapathi, she gained several pounds to play a psychotic role. While these specific films were not commercial successes, they earned her significant critical acclaim.

Her professional journey began in the late 1970s. She made her acting debut in 1978 in the film Manchiki Sthanam Ledu. This movie was produced by Akula Sanjeev Kumar in Warangal. She followed this with Maro Charitra, a Telugu film directed by K. Balachander. In that film, she played a Telugu-speaking girl opposite the actor Kamal Haasan. As her career progressed, she received many offers in Tamil cinema. She frequently collaborated with director Balachander in many of her Tamil productions.

Additionally, she received one Karnataka State Film Award in 1989 for the film Sankranthi. Her ability to succeed across different film industries is reflected in these many accolades.

As a dubbing artist, Saritha uses her voice to bring other actresses to life. This process involves recording dialogue to match the movements of an actress on screen. She has lent her voice to many famous stars. These include Nagma, Vijayashanti, Tabu, and Sushmita Sen. She also provided voices for Soundarya, Ramya Krishnan, and Simran. Her skill in this field is proven by her four Nandi Awards for Best Female Dubbing Artist. Specifically, she won for her work with Soundarya in the films Ammoru, Maa Ayana Bangaram, and Anthapuram.

Saritha's life and career are connected to the broader legal and social history of India. She was born Abhilasha in Munipalle, Andhra Pradesh. Her first marriage to Venkata Subbiah in 1975 led to a legal case regarding the restitution of conjugal rights. This case became an important part of Hindu marriage law in India. Later, she married the Malayalam actor Mukesh in 1988. They have two sons, Shravan and Tejas. Her son Shravan also entered the film industry, making his debut in 2018.
