Her work spans many different roles within the creative process. She does not just perform in front of the camera. She also creates the stories and leads the production teams. To create her films, Okereke uses a wide range of professional skills. She first studied English and Literary Studies at the University of Calabar in Cross River State. For example, in her film *Through the Glass*, she acted as the director, scriptwriter, producer, and actress. This means she wrote the dialogue, managed the crew, and performed the lead role.

Okereke's career has included many different types of media and achievements. She began acting as a teenager in 1997 with the movies *Compromise 2* and *Waterloo*. She also participated in the 2002 Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant, where she placed third. Her filmography is vast, consisting of over 90 movies. These include dramatic roles in films like *Nnenda* and *Days of Bondage*. She has also moved into social advocacy through short films. The history of her success is marked by many prestigious awards. In 2003, she won two awards at the Reel Awards for Best Actress - English and Best Actress of the Year. She has received multiple nominations for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2005, 2009, and 2010. One of her most significant successes was the movie *Dry*. This film won the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Award for Best Overall Movie. That specific prize included a brand new car.

Her influence extends far beyond the movie screen through official recognition and global roles. In 2011, the Nigerian government gave her a national honor. She was named a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic, or MFR. From 2017 to 2020, she served as a Regional Ambassador for the UNFPA. The UNFPA is an international organization that works on global issues. In 2024, she received the Lennox K. Black International Prize for Excellence in Medicine from Thomas Jefferson University.

Okereke has also faced significant personal challenges during her journey. In April 2005, she was involved in a serious car accident while traveling to the Africa Movie Academy Awards in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The accident resulted in a broken leg and burns across her body. Despite these difficulties, she continued her career and her personal life. In April 2012, she married Linus Idahosa in a private wedding in Paris, France. The ceremony was attended by her family and many actors from Nollywood.

Today, her life is a blend of professional achievement and family milestones. She and her husband celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary on April 19, 2024. They have two sons together. Their first son, Maxwell Enosata Linus, was born in October 2015. Their second son arrived in May 2022, seven years after their first child.
