Stepfather

society Maturity 11-13 Next article →

A stepfather is a man in a family. He marries one of your parents. He is not your birth father. His children from other marriages are called stepchildren.

Many stories show stepfathers in different ways. Some old tales show them as villains. In the story "The Blue Belt," a stepfather is not kind. He may try to trick a hero. Some tales show a villain who marries a mother. He then makes her help him trick her child.

Other stories use stepfathers to show mean people. In the opera "La Cenerentola," a stepfather is mean to Cinderella. He does not want to give her money. He wants to save that money for his own daughters.

Sometimes, a person acts like a mean stepfather but is not one. A father's brother might act this way too. This person is an uncle. An uncle might be mean to a child to get their money. These stories help us see how families can change.
