These bikes use resistance to make pedaling harder. Resistance is a force that slows things down. This helps you work out. Some bikes use magnets for this. Others use fans or friction. Friction happens when two parts rub together.

Most bikes use a chain or a belt. This moves a heavy wheel called a flywheel. Some bikes connect the pedals to the handlebars. This lets you exercise your whole body. You can even pedal backwards. This works different muscles.

Stationary bikes are good for your heart. They are safe for your joints. This is because the movement is low-impact. This means it does not put much stress on your body. Doctors use them for physical therapy. Even astronauts use them in space! They use a special bike called an ergometer. This helps them stay strong in space.
